100 Days of Sunlight was published in 2019 and written by Abbie Emmons.
Sunlight, sorrow, sacrifice, and the art of learning to adjust when times get tough. Abbie Emmon's book, 100 Days of Sunlight shows us that love can find us in the darkest of times, and bring us to the light. This book made Emmons a first-time author and allowed the audience to grapple with the heartbreak of a traumatic incident.
This incident left the main character, Tessa, temporarily blind and looking for purpose. That's when our main character Weston is introduced. In this enemies-to-friends romance, Weston is the saving grace that Tessa didn't want. Facilitated by her grandparents to get Tessa writing again, Weston--who has disabilities of his own, answers a paper ad to help a young, blind girl with her blogging.
This trope is done in a double, 1st perspn POV style, switiching off between Tessa and Weston. It brings up the demons that each have faced, Tessa with a short term disability, and Weston with a lifetime one.
Sharing stories of interabeled love is necessary, and in this story, it's beauitufully done. Emmon's prose depicts the sorrow heartbreak that comes with losing your identity to an accident. As a writer, Tessa's ability to share her stories online where absolutely necessary.
Most everyone can identify with not wanting to be helped when we are going through traumatic times. Tessa is stubborn and ungreatful at times, but opens her heart slowly. Weston, who remains the persistent hero, was helpful to Tessa in more ways than one. His struggles remained with his inability to be true to himself and obtain self-love despite having a disability he can't change.
Overall, the characters were both well thought out, and had an internal struggle that seemed genuine and relatable. I will say the story sagged a bit towards the ending, as we waited for the inevitable love to develop. The plot is somewhat predictable but that doesn't make it bad. I would give this love-story a soilid 8/10. Quick, light reading for a weekend in the summer or fall, perfecct when you feel like falling for two adorable characters.
